Florence Welch — aka leading lady of Florence and the Machine — has been one of my favorites for a long, long time. But she earned my life-long respect when I saw her live for the second time this summer. It was the morning after the horrific Orlando shooting, and Florence had the entire audience hold a moment of silence. In a venue of over 30, people, the silence was Earth-shattering, and Florence continued to play tribute to the victims of that massacre throughout the show. Florence, for those who may not know, is a mega book lover. Between Two Books has an impressive 41, followers on Instagram. She is, as one would expect, an eclectic reader, traversing the worlds of fiction and poetry and non-fiction.

The Marriage Plot by Jeffrey Eugenides 3? Nora Ephron. Sharing her original poetry was something new for Welch. Nick Cave. Ransom Riggs.

She tells Greg Cochrane why. What began as a teenage collaboration with her friend Isa Summers in Camberwell, south London, developed rapidly - a period defined by growing success, all-night partying and the kind of hangovers only a year-old can conquer. I would always be writing things down. Somehow I always made it home with that soggy notebook still in my hand. It feels like it. All this is complimented by artwork, too, both by Florence and courtesy some of her favourites, like William Morris and Gustav Klimt. For fans, it will feel instantly collectable.
