Here you are going to find a fully packed chronology with tons of names let it be places or peoples that will hold your interest when it gets more narrative-y I know this firf a word but I tried to like this book. Many of the heroes whose songs are sung in this book will be familiar to attentive fans of the A Song of Ice and Fire series, as they are referenced there many a times. Martin published his last proper fantasy novel. Now this decade has almost passed with no release date for part 6. The new book circles back three centuries pre-Arya, story-spinning a macrohistorical generational saga about various dudes named Aegon and their various sisters they marry. And as Raymond Chandler used to almost say: When in doubt, a door can open and a dragon can walk in. Like any good fictional historian, Gyldayn hat-tips toward his fictional research material. He quotes primary-source legal documents written by untrustworthy officials and memoirs full of probable lies. He references popular songs mythologizing long-ago events and dismisses commoner folklore with a ring of truth.

Does anyone know if this book is supposed to read like a novel or more like a history text book. None of it is new, it was already known from the World of Ice and Fire encyclopaedia. View all 18 comments! This part isn't new at all, though it is nice to read a brief guide to how the world came to be as it is in one digestible sitting.
