Matt Thomas is Vice President and General Manager for Medtronic’s Pain Stimulation & Early Interventions. In this role, he was instrumental in the launch of IntellisTM, the world’s smallest implantable neurostimulator. IntellisTM provides patients access to high-dose (HD) and low-dose (LD) therapy for long-term pain relief.
Thomas joined Medtronic in 2002 as a product manager for deep brain stimulation. In 2005, he began to work on the global launch of the first sensor-enabled insulin pump to help those with diabetes. He joined Medtronic’s Spine Department in 2010 as Vice President of Market Development and Education, later taking leadership of the Interventional Spine Department including marketing, business development, U.S. sales, and research and development.
He won Medtronic’s Marketing Excellence Award in 2005 and has earned multiple healthcare industry awards. Thomas has been a keynote speaker at more than 15 strategy and marketing conferences.
Thomas’s first medical device experience came as an early employee with the startup Sonic Innovations, where he worked as a product manager leading up to a successful IPO in 2000. After leaving Sonic, Matt cofounded and led HyperX, a technology company serving early stage med-tech clients. He also had roles at American Express and Cap Gemini consulting.
Thomas has an MBA from Carnegie Mellon University and a bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of Utah. He is the author of three books.
